Freestyle snowboarding involves jumps and tricks and is an exhilarating experience. Although freestyle is the most popular riding style, it requires focus and practice to learn the techniques. The basic snowboard skill required for going off a snowboard jump is an ollie. According to Snowboarding Coach, an ollie involves a precisely timed sequence of movements in which you spring into the air off the tail of your board.
Step 1
Approach an uncrowded jump with your knees bent and arms relaxed.
Step 2
Carry enough speed to clear the jump, look straight ahead and keep your shoulders parallel to your snowboard.
Step 3
As you go up the jump, shift your weight toward your front foot and crouch down, ready to pop up.
Step 4
At the lip of the jump, rock your weight to your back foot and lift your front foot to raise the nose of your board.
Step 5
Flex your snowboard and spring into the air off the tail of the board.
Step 6
Level your board in midair, raise your knees to your chest and keep your board centered under you.
Step 7
Spot your landing, center your weight and touch down with the length of your board. Land with your body and board at the same angle as the landing, says the Snow Professor.
