Some people are more sensitive to the physical effects of caffeine than others. Too much caffeine can cause you to feel jittery, nervous, irritable, restless or even cause a rapid heartbeat. While it is best to stick to your caffeine limit or drink decaf to avoid any problems, there are steps you can take to ease the caffeine high if you accidentally consume too much.

Step 1

Eat a snack or meal to help settle your stomach. Keep the food somewhat simple, such as bread, crackers or rice. Starchy foods such as these can help soak up some of the caffeine that is in your stomach, helping to reduce its effects.

Step 2

Drink jasmine or chamomile herbal tea, both of which can have a relaxing effect and help to counteract your caffeine high.

Step 3

Exercise to burn off the excess caffeine. Going for a run, swim or bike ride can help to ease your caffeine high, reduce anxiety and allow your body to relax. Monitor your heart rate and stop if you go beyond your maximum heart rate.

Step 4

Drink water to stay hydrated and to help dilute the ingested caffeine.
