Cluster headaches come on suddenly, and the pain may come and go suddenly. Cluster headaches are usually felt on one side of the head and may involve a stuffy nose or tearing of the eyes, according to a Pub Med Health. Cluster headaches may be triggered by drinking, smoking, high altitudes, exertion or certain medications, which can include multivitamins.

Liquid Multivitamins

Liquid multivitamin formulas contain a mixture of both vitamins and minerals in a liquid form, to be taken orally once per day. Some liquid multivitamins, just as cough syrup, contain alcohol. According to MayoClinic, alcohol can worsen a cluster headache by quickly turning it into a splitting headache once consumed, or it can trigger an attack in individuals who get cluster headaches. To avoid this, purchase alcohol-free liquid multivitamins.

Multivitamin Side Effects

Certain multivitamin supplements cause side effects such as upset stomach or a strange taste in the mouth. In addition, Drugs.com states that headache is a common side effect of taking multivitamins. Headaches from multivitamins may come on sudden but should not be severe or excruciating. If you experience a severe headache or severe pain in any part of your face or head, contact your physician immediately. Since the FDA doesn't regulate mutilvitamin supplements, the safety of these supplements are left up to the manufacturer.

Magnesium

Complete multivitamins contain a mixture of minerals, which include magnesium. According to the book " The Magnesium Miracle," the mineral magnesium inhibits excess formation of tiny clots that block the blood vessels in the head and cause pain. Magnesium was given to 3,000 headache suffers at a dose of 200 mg a day, and migraine symptoms reduced by 80 percent. People who suffer from cluster headaches are reported to have low magnesium levels. Magnesium given via injection was found effective in treating cluster headache suffers.

Vitamin B-6

Vitamin B-6 is a water-soluble vitamin belonging to the B-complex group of vitamins. James Balch states in the book "Prescriptions for Natural Cures," that 50 mg of vitamin B-6 given daily can help prevent the onset of headaches by synthesizing transmitters such as serotonin, which may be deficient in headache sufferers. Vitamin B-6 is available in B-complex multivitamins or daily multivitamins.
