The Slimming World Diet Plan, a United Kingdom-based weight-loss company established in 1969, claims to help you shed unwanted pounds without experiencing hunger or food deprivation, or having to count calories or points. While on the diet, you choose which foods you want to eat every day, select a workout program that fits your lifestyle and enjoy access to the company's support tools to help you stay motivated until you reach your ideal weight, according to the diet website.

Theory

Unlike other diets that tell you what you can and cannot eat, the Slimming World Diet Food Optimising program claims to help you lose weight by consuming less calories than you expend, writes registered dietitian Juliette Kellow on WeightLossResources.co.uk. The company proposes that its unlimited amounts of low-calorie, high-nutrient foods keep you satiated, while its online and in-person support systems help you uncover and eradicate the feelings that drive you to overeat and remain overweight, according to the diet website.

Methodology

You participate in the Slimming World Diet online, or in-person if you live near one of the company's "clubs" throughout the U.K. You choose which plan to follow -- Slimming World Extra Easy Choice, Slimming World Green Choice or Slimming World Original Choice -- that matches your individual dietary interests. For example, Slimming World Extra Easy Choice is a plant-based diet that includes small amounts of whole grains, fish and poultry. Slimming World World Green Choice features an abundance of carbohydrate-rich foods such as lentils, pasta and potatoes and a limited amount of lean meats, nuts and cheeses. Slimming World Original Choice emphasizes high-meat, low-carbohydrate consumption.

Once you choose your plan, you select your morning, midday and evening meals and snacks from Slimming World's "free foods" list. You eat as much of the nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods assigned to your plan, such as fat-free yogurt, stir-fried chicken and steamed green beans, as you would like throughout the day, according to SlimmingWorld.com. You can also eat four servings of "healthy extras" such as dried fruits or milk per day, and five to 15 "syns" per day. Syns are larger servings of healthy extras. Slimming World's individual plans outline the syns points of typical healthy extra portions, according to Kellow.

Expert Insight

Although exercise is not a required part of the program, Slimming World does have an exercise program, Body Magic, that encourages you to choose your own five-day-a-week, 30-minute-per day workout to help you achieve your weight-loss goals, writes Kellow. However, Kellow also notes that since the Slimming World Diet does not teach you how to count calories or measure portion sizes, you could easily return to your old eating habits after you go off the diet. Furthermore, since the company does not supply the number of calories burned for types of individual exercise sessions, you will not learn the relationship between diet and exercise, according to Kellow.

Warning

Speak with your doctor about the pros and cons of the Slimming World Diet before you begin the program. Your doctor might suggest another weight-loss program based upon your individual needs, medical conditions and weight-loss goals.
