Pimples on your back can be both unsightly and painful, and can happen anywhere between puberty and your middle age years. Whether or not the pimple is small and painless or large, red and tender, you will want to take steps to treat the acne and stop them from coming back.
Step 1
Wash your back twice a day. During showers, it can be easy to neglect cleaning your back but you will want to make sure you clean you back thoroughly to help prevent bacteria from backing up and causing pimples. You may need a brush or sponge to reach all areas of your back, but be careful about scrubbing, as irritation can also lead to pimples. Use a mild, non-drying soap that will be gentle to your skin.
Step 2
Limit the clothing that touches your back. Tight-fitting clothing or backpacks can trap moisture and dirt against your skin, which helps promote the development of pimples on your back. Sweating can cause more pimples to develop, so it is wise to shower, or at least change to a dry shirt, soon after sweating.
Step 3
Use an acne cream to help dry up pimples and stop them from coming back. There are a number of over-the-counter creams on the market, and these help to dry up the oil that can clog the pores on your back and shoulder. The Mayo Clinic recommends a product that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as the active ingredient.
Step 4
Avoid refined sugars, if possible, as the National Institute of Health suggests that a diet high in refined sugar may lead to acne. Refined sugar is present in many common foods, such as candy, cereal and syrup.
