Skin wrinkles are a normal result of aging, as the division and replacement of new cells declines, skin loses it's elasticity and your body reduces the amount of moisturizing oil it produces. Some wrinkles can be prevented by avoiding excessive exposure to the sun, particularly when you're young but also later in life. In addition, staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet and engaging in good hygiene habits can reduce your risk of developing some wrinkles. Certain dietary supplements may also help maintain healthy skin and decrease the effects of potentially damaging substances. Check with your doctor before using supplements.

CoQ10

CoQ10, also known as coenzyme Q10, is a naturally occurring substance found in the mitochondria or energy centers of your cells. CoQ10, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, facilitates the manufacture of energy for the cells and is also an antioxidant compound. Antioxidants neutralize potentially damaging substances called free radicals that are created during metabolism. Left intact, free radicals can lead to cellular damage throughout the body, including skin. In addition, the UMMC explains that CoQ10 might also help slow down aging that leads to wrinkling on your skin.

Vitamins for Skin Wrinkles

Although aging is inevitable, developing skin wrinkles as a result may be delayed by using certain dietary supplements. The Mayo Clinic explains that, aside from CoQ10, other supplements that are often included in topical wrinkle creams include vitamin A, also called retinol, alpha hydroxy acids, copper and green tea. These may help encourage a mild to moderate reduction in wrinkling by adding natural vitamins and antioxidants to your skin. In addition, getting adequate amounts of nutrients like vitamin C provides your body with cell nutrition and removes free radicals that can cause wrinkling.

Certain dietary supplements, including CoQ10 and other vitamins, may help you optimize your body's ability to replace skin cells and prevent damage to skin by free radicals. Topical solutions that contain these nutrients might also be helpful in enhancing healing, removing dead cells and evening out areas that have irregular pigmentation. The UMMC states that vitamin E may help decrease the length and depth of some wrinkles and help to smooth your skin. More research is needed however, to support these effects.

Considerations

Wrinkles can't be completely avoided and the tendency to wrinkle in a certain way at approximately a certain age is related to heredity, as much as the way you treat your skin and body when young. Limiting your exposure to sunlight, for example, can significantly reduce damage to your skin and premature aging caused by this damage. In addition, Medline Plus adds that excess and early skin wrinkling is often caused by smoking cigarettes, a preventable cause of early aging. Using certain products for skin wrinkling that contain nutrients like CoQ10 and vitamin C may also help your skin stay healthy, reduce the extent of wrinkling early and decrease pigmentation that creates age spots.
