People can suffer from anxiety, depression or a combination of the two. A licensed mental health professional can help you diagnosis your mental health issues and get the treatment that you need.

With either depression or anxiety, the person will have significant issues with his family life, social life and at work or school.

Types of Depression

The two main types of depression are major depressive disorder and dysthymic disorder. Some people also classify bipolar disorder under depression; however, it's a mood disorder separate from depression.

Types of Anxiety

Generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorders are categorized under anxiety disorders.

Signs and Symptoms of Depression

Sadness, irritability, feeling helpless, hopeless and worthless and a loss of pleasure in activities that used to make you happy are common signs of depression. Someone with depression may also have issues with eating and sleeping, a low level of energy and thoughts of suicide or death.

Signs and Symptoms of Anxiety

There are emotional symptoms of anxiety which include fear, trouble concentrating, constant worrying and irritability and physical symptoms such as a pounding heart, sweating, nausea and headaches. Each type of anxiety also has specific signs and symptoms.
