5 Things You Need to Know About Frizzy Hair

5 Things You Need to Know About Frizzy Hair

1. Stay Out of the Sun for Healthier Hair

Jogging, playing tennis, swimming and other outdoor sports are great to tone your body, but wreck havoc on your hair. Too much sun and chlorinated water in the swimming pool leaves hair damaged and frizzy. To protect your hair, wear a floppy hat when outside for long periods. Rub hair oil with a high SPF (sun protection factor) into your locks before leaving the house for the day and use shampoo made specifically for sun damaged hair.

2. Cool Down

If you experiment with the latest trendy hairstyles and overload your hair with gels, mousse and harsh chemical hair colors, use a good conditioner to replenish and hydrate dry hair or you'll end up with a frizzy mess. Ration the amount of time spent with hair dryers, blow dryers and curling irons, or put them on a low setting. A ceramic blow dryer aimed at your roots keeps frizzy hair to a minimum if you must dry your hair with an appliance. Make time to towel dry your hair if possible or let it dry on its own while applying your makeup.

3. Get Your Hair Cut Regularly

Visit your hairdresser every six to eight weeks for a trim. This will lessen split ends and keep the hair shaft healthy. Have hair cut in layers to avoid a thick unkempt look. A blunt cut works wonders for frizzy or flyaway hair. Ask your stylist to cut your hair with scissors instead of a razor or thinning shears, as they tend to cause split ends.

4. Don't Overdo Shampoo

Washing hair every day strips it of natural oils needed to protect it from drying out and splitting. Wash hair twice a week and always condition it afterwards. Rinse with cold water to protect the hair cuticle from drying out and giving you the frizzies.

5. Moisturize Your Hair Like Your Skin

Keep your hair moist with hot oil treatments and products made with natural ingredients like shea butter or burdock. Check hair and cosmetic websites like Jason's Naturals and Burt's Bees for hair masks and deep conditioners made with lime, avocado, honey and other healthy ingredients to drench frizzy, damaged hair with much needed moisture. Take a leave-in conditioner or aerosol moisturizing spray with you to hydrate dry hair throughout the day.
