Blackheads are small bumps embedded in the pores of your skin that are usually yellow or black in color. They are a type of acne known as comedone, and often form after bacteria invades the pores. To remove blackheads, you can purchase a tool known as a flat blackhead remover or a blackhead extractor. This tool can be purchased in any beauty supply store and you do not have to be a licensed professional to purchase or use a blackhead extractor, meaning that you can extract blackheads within the privacy of your own home.
Step 1
Take a hot shower. A hot shower can help prepare your skin for blackhead extraction. If you do not have time for a hot shower, wash your face with soap and hot water. The heat and steam will help open your pores, making blackhead extraction easier. Be sure to clean your hands with soap and water as well.
Step 2
Sterilize your blackhead extractor prior to using to help prevent infections by soaking it in rubbing alcohol for three minutes. Dry the instrument with a clean towel upon removing the extractor from the rubbing alcohol.
Step 3
Place the hole -- found at the tip of your blackhead extractor -- over the blackhead you wish to extract.
Step 4
Press down on the handle of the blackhead extractor. You will notice the blackhead emerging from your skin without breakage or damage to the skin surrounding the blackhead.
Step 5
Use the side ledge of the blackhead extractor to remove the oil and dirt extracted from your blackhead.
Step 6
Apply a thin layer of antiseptic cream to the area. This can help destroy any dirt or bacteria that may try to enter the open pore.
Step 7
Repeat on any blackhead you wish to remove.
Tips and Warnings
- If you are not confident in your ability to successful extract blackheads, visit a dermatologist. She can safely extract blackheads from your pores.
