Deep-fried turkey is a savory delicacy that many families enjoy at Thanksgiving. If you would prefer not to go through the mess and hassle of deep frying an entire turkey, you can fry smaller portions of turkey inside your home in a skillet. Best of all, a 3.5-oz. portion of fried turkey only contains 2 more grams of fat than an equivalent portion of roasted turkey, according to the American Dietetic Association. At 12 g of fat, deep-fried turkey is not a low-fat meal, but when it is eaten in moderation it can be part of a healthy diet.
Step 1
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet over high heat. The oil is ready when it reaches 370 degrees Fahrenheit. If the oil is cooler than this, it will absorb more oil and will contain more fat and calories.
Step 2
Season the turkey with your seasoning of choice, such as barbecue rub, Cajun seasoning or a garlic and salt rub.
Step 3
Place the turkey slices in the hot oil and fry them for 10 minutes, or until the turkey is nicely browned on the outside and cooked through.
Step 4
Remove the turkey slices with a skimmer and place them on a plate covered with paper towels to drain.
Step 5
Serve the turkey hot.
