For some, indigestion may be associated with some undesirable symptoms including gas, bloating, heartburn and constipation. Eating too much or too fast as well as eating foods that are spicy, greasy or contain a lot of fiber may cause indigestion. Too much alcohol or caffeine may also cause indigestion as can certain medicines and medical conditions, such as gallstones and ulcers. Seek medical care if symptoms last for more than a few days or if symptoms get worse.
Step 1
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Their fiber content will help prevent indigestion.
Step 2
Take your time when eating and chew your food thoroughly.
Step 3
Eat your meal in a peaceful setting. Arguing or feeling stressed and anxious during a meal may lead to digestion problems later.
Step 4
Reduce intake of certain foods and beverages. Limit caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Limit how often you eat take-out, processed and/or spicy foods.
Step 5
Drink peppermint tea or enjoy a peppermint after each meal. Peppermint is known to treat a wide variety of stomach ailments including gas, bloating and constipation.
