Whether you're planning a Cinco de Mayo bash, a traditional Southwestern holiday party or a meal with a spicy flair, develop a menu that partners with a taco salad side dish. Choose proteins and side dishes that mix-and-match with your taco salad ingredients. Be sure to offer vegetarian options to satisfy all of your guests, and don't forget the margaritas and sangria.
Step 1
Choose your proteins. Include grilled chicken or shrimp or prepare a slow-cooked chile con carne. Consider serving a pot of pinto beans or a baked refried bean enchilada casserole for a meat-free entree.
Step 2
List your vegetable side dishes. In addition to the taco salad greens and toppings, consider roasted bell peppers with roasted poblano peppers, or prepare calabacitas, a dish of sauteed zucchini and corn.
Step 3
Serve a variety of crunchy foods with dips. Make guacamole and fresh salsa to serve with the taco salad, but reserve some of these dips and serve them with colorful tortilla chips and cut-up fresh vegetables.
Step 4
Offer a non-alcoholic beverage in addition to drinks with alcohol. Experiment with flavors of margaritas and use seasonal fruits to prepare homemade sangria.
Step 5
Serve Mexican chocolate cake or sopapillas with honey or powdered sugar for a sweet ending to your meal.
