Acne can cause whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts and the aftermath of these symptoms is usually scarring. Pimples are red, puss-filled bumps that most commonly show up on your face, chest or back. They can be painful and often tempting to pop. Daily skin care methods can get rid of pimples without getting scars.

Step 1

Wash your face at least once a day with an oil-free cleanser. Wash your face a second time each day if you have oily skin. Choose a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which fight bacteria and clear pimples. Gently pat your skin dry.

Step 2

Apply a facial lotion to dry skin. Choose a lotion designed for acne-prone skin that is noncomedogenic, which means it will not clog your pores. Apply a thin layer to your entire face.

Step 3

Spot treat your pimples with acne spot medication. This type of product can be applied after facial lotion or before bed to reduce redness and the size of pimples. Apply up to three times a day until your pimples are gone.

Step 4

Exfoliate your face 1 to 2 times a week. This will help remove dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria. Gently rub the exfoliant into your skin instead of scrubbing, which can irritate the skin. Avoid rubbing coarse exfoliant over new, large or very inflamed pimples.

Step 5

Do not pick, pop or squeeze your pimples. Attempting to get rid of a pimple this way can cause scarring and scabbing. You can also spread bacteria beneath the skin and cause more pimples to appear.
