Coleman is a manufacturer of outdoor gear and equipment. Its electronic compass is a combination of devices, including thermometer, clock and stopwatch. But the most important feature is the compass. If a compass is not calibrated correctly, it will not display an accurate direction heading. Compasses may get out of calibration if they are exposed to high interference, such as a magnetic field caused by power lines and large appliances. If you see an "Err" message on your compass, you may need to calibrate.
Step 1
Press "MODE" until the display reaches Compass mode.
Step 2
Press the "ALM" button and hold it until "CAL" is displayed on the screen. Then press the "SEL" button.
Step 3
Rotate the electronic compass clockwise on a flat plane in two complete circles. Each rotation should take between 20 and 60 seconds to complete.
Step 4
Press "ALM" as soon as your rotations are complete. Repeat the steps if calibration is unsuccessful.
Tips and Warnings
- Always calibrate your compass away from objects that may cause interference, including appliances and power sources. To keep your compass on a flat plane, set it on a table or countertop for the rotations.
- You should keep a backup nonelectronic compass when you are out on the trial, in case the batteries fail on the electronic device.
