Motivation precedes action. Specifically, it comprises mental processes that drive an individual to act toward achieving a goal. Whether you want to lose weight, eat healthy or finish a book, it takes motivation to start and ultimately carry out your goals to completion. If you require more motivation than others do, incorporate motivational practices into your daily activities to set your plans in motion.

Step 1

Write down your goals. By putting your goals on paper, you can better visualize what you want to do -- and how to do it.

Step 2

Find a partner to join you in reaching your goals. A partner will help motivate you and keep you accountable when you lack motivation.

Step 3

Split your main goal into smaller goals. Trying to tackle one large goal can seem insurmountable and often leads to procrastination. Splitting your goal into more manageable goals will make you feel more capable. For example, instead of focusing on losing 50 pounds, focus on losing 2 pounds each week.

Step 4

Figure out what you are afraid of. Anxieties and fears can prevent you from getting started on -- and finishing -- the task. Awareness of your fears allows you to tackle them and helps you gain confidence.

Step 5

Create an environment that supports your goals. Clutter, noise and distractions are some of the biggest motivation killers. A clean, welcoming environment will make it easier to focus on what you wish to accomplish.
