Waking up in the morning feeling refreshed and energized can sometimes be a struggle. If you find you can barely pry yourself out of bed without that first pot of coffee, it might be time to try a new routine. Building your energy in the morning can supply you with momentum to last the entire day. Through a combination of diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, you can increase and sustain your energy level for the morning and beyond.

Step 1

Eat right in the morning, choosing high-protein, low-fat breakfast choices over the traditional bacon and eggs breakfast. Some healthy breakfast choices include granola with low-fat milk, whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and an egg-white omelet with vegetables.

Step 2

Make a fresh-squeezed juice. Combine carrots, apples and ginger in a juicer to create your own nutritious, energy-boosting drink.

Step 3

Exercise in the morning for at least 10 minutes. As soon as you get out of bed, stretch your muscles or go for a brisk walk or run around the neighborhood. Exercising in the morning will get your blood pumping and increase you energy level for the day.

Step 4

Take a cold shower or splash your face with cold water. Cold water constricts the blood vessels and slightly shocks your system awake. This is particularly useful on days when you feel extra sluggish.

Tips and Warnings

  • Choose healthy mid-morning snacks to keep your energy levels sustained, such as a banana, celery or carrot sticks.
