The best defense against a fibroid may be a combination of approaches that include diet, nutrition and lifestyle. A fibroid is a benign growth and common among women during the childbearing years, according to MayoClinic.com. In fact, four out of five women have fibrosis whether they realize it or not. Clinical science does not support the idea that you can take a supplement to reduce the size of a fibroid. There is no magic formula. What you can do is manage your diet and take supplements to promote uterine health.

Step 1

Monitor your diet. Cut back on white bread and sugars. Eliminate refined foods, caffeine, alcohol and red meats. Focus on fish, soy and beans. Add more dark, leafy vegetables and fruits to your diet.

Step 2

Take an omega-3 supplement. Follow the directions with the product for proper use. Ingest 6 g each day.

Step 3

Add vitamins D and E supplements to your diet. Take 400 IU of vitamin D and 500 IU of vitamin E daily.

Step 4

Drink eight glasses of water each day.

Step 5

Exercise 30 minutes daily for five days a week.

Tips and Warnings

  • A fibroid is rarely serious and, in most cases, will fade on its own. If they become painful, prescription medication may be a better approach to managing the condition.
  • Studies have not proven that any supplement will shrink fibroid growth. Some supplements may help resolve cramping and pain you experience during your period that may be related to a fibroid. If you experience severe pain or heavier than normal bleeding, see a doctor to eliminate more serious medical problems.

Things You'll Need

  • Omega-3 supplements
  • Vitamin D supplements
