Eating the wrong types of foods and chewing your food improperly result in stomach bloating. In addition, certain kinds of food and beverages contribute to weight gain which often shows up around your waist. Fight belly fat and stomach bloat with a double-pronged approach of changing your diet and adding daily aerobic exercise. You cannot target your stomach fat with calorie restriction and exercise, but you can burn fat cells everywhere you tend to gain weight, including your belly. If you have health concerns, consult your doctor about tailoring a diet and fitness regimen to treat your condition.

Step 1

Eliminate foods that cause indigestion and gas. Deep-fried food, fried snack food and other items containing saturated fat and trans fat slow down your digestive process and contribute to abdominal bloating. Gas-producing foods, such as broccoli, baked beans, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and lettuce may make your stomach bloat.

Step 2

Skip sugary carbonated beverages. The refined sugar adds calories without providing any nutritive value. The carbonation releases carbon dioxide gas that makes your belly bloat. Drink plain water instead.

Step 3

Chew your food thoroughly. Gulping down your food and beverages may make you overeat because you do not give your stomach a chance to signal your brain that it is full. Chewing your food well softens and moistens your food, preparing it for the digestive tract. The food will absorb into the small intestine more easily and quickly.

Step 4

Exercise intensely for 60 minutes every day. Zumba, high-impact dance, kickboxing, martial arts, running, jogging, speed-walking, climbing stairs and skipping rope spike your heart rate so you burn body fat rapidly.

Step 5

Do resistance exercises such as pushups, squats and yoga sun salutations to build muscle. The dense muscle tissue replaces fat, making your body burn more calories to sustain it.

Tips and Warnings

  • Keep your calorie count low and your bowels regulated by eating high-fiber foods such as leafy greens, berries, apples, legumes and unsweetened whole grains.
