If you sprout a large red pimple just before an important occasion, you might feel it is going to ruin the day for you. The key is not to panic. Don't take aggressive steps such as scrubs or harsh toners. Above all, don't be tempted to pick at or squeeze the pimple as that might cause an infection. Scars from infected pimples can last longer than the pimple would if left alone. Steps can be taken to help the pimple heal quickly and to make it look less inflamed.
Step 1
Wash your face with a mild soap to avoid making the inflammation worse. Pat your face dry, rather than rubbing it with a towel.
Step 2
Apply an over-the-counter face care product that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Use a small amount. Dab it on the pimple and let it dry. Leave it on for as long as possible.
Step 3
Rinse out a washcloth in hot water. Squeeze most of the water out of the washcloth and apply it to the pimple as a hot compress. Hold it in place until the washcloth cools off to lukewarm. It's all right to repeat the hot compress one or two more times. The hot compress opens your pores and stimulates blood circulation.
Step 4
If the pimple looks as though it is ready to expel its contents, wash your hands and use your fingers to stretch the pore open by pulling away from the pimple. Do not squeeze, as this might drive the infected material deeper. If the pimple is ready, pulling it open will help expel the infected material. Wipe it away with a facial tissue. Apply a dab of antiseptic ointment to the pimple.
Step 5
Dab a little green-tinted concealer around the pimple. Don't get the concealer in the open pore to avoid the possibility of infection. Avoid contaminating the makeup container by touching the contents after touching your infected pimple.
