Tennis is a two- or four-player sport played with a racquet and hollow, rubber ball. Tennis requires hand-eye coordination as well as athleticism. While tennis requires practice to perfect your game, you can have fun while playing. Individuals of all ages -- both children and adults -- can make tennis fun regardless of skill level by using a little creativity. Making tennis fun can make the game more enjoyable for children and adults to learn and perfect.
Step 1
Dress for the weather. Tennis is more fun when you are comfortable. Wear cool, light colored clothes in the summer and warm and tight fitting clothes during cooler weather. Avoid loose-fitting clothes as they can interfere with your game.
Step 2
Play with a friend or family member. Play tennis with an individual you enjoy spending time with. Try carrying on a conversation as you practice and play tennis.
Step 3
Sign up for a tennis instruction class or a tennis league. Play with individuals who are your age and of the same skill level.
Step 4
Hit some tennis balls against a wall or use a ball machine. Count how many times you can hit the ball in a row.
Step 5
Turn tennis practice into a game. Play the game "HORSE" or "PIG" like in basketball. Play with a friend. Each time one of you misses the ball you get a letter. The first one to spell "HORSE" or "PIG" loses. For more advanced players, opt to spell longer words.
Step 6
Turn up some music. Play your favorite music or music that motivates you as you practice.
Tips and Warnings
- Never force a child to play tennis, just because you play tennis or like the sport.
- Do not get discouraged even if you lose. Tennis is a game and there is always a next match.
