Cheaper than cosmetic procedures and less invasive, facial massage may help to combat facial wrinkles, restoring skin suppleness and firmness. As skin ages it starts to lose its elasticity, causing sagging skin and wrinkles. Sun damage and repetitive facial motions are two other wrinkle-causing culprits. Using your fingers, massage your face daily to increase circulation and remove lymphatic wastes that clog your system and cause premature wrinkles.

Step 1

Wash your skin thoroughly with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 2

Pat your skin back to life every morning using a technique described by Monika Struna, author of "Self-Massage." Standing up, bend over at the waist and look down. Pat your face gently using the finger pads. Pat the left and right sides of your face with the left and right fingers, respectively. Move your fingers around your face, patting every surface for 15 to 20 seconds.

Step 3

Perform facial massage with moisturizer two times per day. Coat your fingers with moisturizer and lightly cover the face. You want to have enough liquid on your face to allow the fingers to move freely across the skin. Massaging your face without moisturizer may cause the fingers to pull and stretch the skin. Massage the skin in a circular motion with the finger pads using a moderate pressure on the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and a very light pressure around the eyes.

Step 4

Place your fingers in a vertical line at the center of your forehead. Move the hands away from each other as you draw a horizontal line across your forehead to your temples. Draw the fingers down the sides of the face from the temples, down past the cheeks and meeting at the chin. Repeat this journey from the forehead to the chin for several minutes.

Tips and Warnings

  • Always wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 whenever you are out in the sun.
  • Results from facial massage may be much more subtle than from cosmetic surgery.
