With xylitol, stevia and inulin, you can pacify your sweet tooth without putting on the pounds. These three natural sweeteners have 40 percent fewer calories than sugar and do not cause a spike in your blood sugar the way that table sugar does. This blend is suitable for diabetics and those on low-glycemic diets. A mix of xylitol, stevia and inulin can be used to sweeten baked goods in a healthy way.
Step 1
Mix together equal proportions of stevia, xylitol and inulin in an airtight container. If you decide you like the taste of one sugar substitute better than the others, you can increase the ratio of the favored sweetener to create your own blend.
Step 2
Use the sweetener blend in baked goods. This blend should be used in a one-to-one ratio in place of table sugar. For example, if a recipe calls for 2 cups of sugar, use 2 cups of the sweetener mixture. Stevia is two to three times sweeter than sugar and needs to be balanced with another natural sweetener for bulking up baked goods. Xylitol and inulin are less sweet and provide the much-needed bulk to replace sugar one-to-one in any recipe.
Step 3
Sweeten coffee, tea, iced tea, lemonade and other drinks with the sweetener blend.
Step 4
Add cinnamon to the sweetener mixture to make a cinnamon-sugar blend that can be sprinkled over buns, cereal, rice puddings and other desserts.
