We've all been there: you wake up one morning to find a bright red pimple staring you in the face. Although your first thought may be to squeeze it, don't. Squeezing a pimple causes it to turn an even brighter red and can cause inflammation and infection. Resist the urge to pop the pimple and instead use methods that will decrease the visible signs as the pimple slowly goes away.
Step 1
Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the pimple and cover it with an adhesive bandage. Leave the bandage on overnight to reduce the swelling and redness. Keep in mind that it must be tooth paste, instead of gel.
Step 2
Remove the bandage and use a gentle face cleanser to wash your face the next morning. This will remove the toothpaste from the night before and also any oil or debris that might have accumulated on your face.
Step 3
Apply benzoyl peroxide to the pimple. This over-the-counter medication is used to reduce inflammation and to kill bacteria. Apply the cream to the pimple and allow it to be absorbed. Repeat at least two times a day until the pimple has disappeared.
Step 4
Use an aspirin to reduce any swelling. To use, crush one aspirin into a powder and mix with a few drops of water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the pimple and leave it on for about 7 minutes. Rinse the paste off with warm water. Repeat at night, and during the day if needed, to reduce the redness and swelling of the pimple.
