How to Get Rid of Acne Scarring on the Arms

Difference types of acne scars can appear on your arms depending on the type of acne you have. Two of the most common types of scars, according to Acne.org, are ice pick and box car. Ice pick scars are small, deep pits, while box car scars have more of a shallow, angular appearance. Rolling scars appear wave-like caused by acne deep under the surface of your skin. Hypertrophic scars appear as lumpy, raised scars caused by more severe acne. You may need to try a combination of home, topical and surgical treatments to rid your arms of acne scarring depending on the severity.

Step 1

Scrub the area with exfoliating body wash and a natural loofah sponge or loofah bath mitt. The loofah and body wash helps slough off the dead layers of skin at the scar site and encourage new skin growth.

Step 2

Apply olive oil onto your acne scars, massaging the oil into your skin with a circular motion. Stand in a hot shower and let the steam from the water penetrate the area on your arms treated with olive oil for five minutes. Wipe the area with a damp wash cloth to begin to remove the scars on your arm.

Step 3

Try microdermabrasion on your acne scars, either at home or the esthetician's office. Microdermabrasion employs aluminum oxide crystals to help remove the dead skin cells off the surface of your skin and helps reduce the appearance of your acne scars.

Step 4

Visit a dermatologist office for a dermabrasion treatment to remove slight surface scars and reduce the appearance of deeper scars. The doctor uses a diamond wheel or brush to remove the surface of the skin and promote new skin growth.

Step 5

Mix together 1 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 tsp. of water to form a paste. Rub the paste into your scars for at least one minute. Rinse the area with water to help reduce the appearance of the scars. Repeat at least three times a week to help avoid additional acne on your arms.

Step 6

Apply over-the-counter or prescription topical creams to the scars on your arms. Follow the directions of the cream to help reduce the appearance of your scars.

Step 7

Visit a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to have a laser treatment applied to the acne scars on your arms. The laser removes the scar and penetrates deep into the skin's surface, allowing new skin to grow at the scar location.

Step 8

Have a chemical peel applied to the acne scars on your arms at the dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office. The peel uses acids to remove the surface layers of your scars, softening the appearance of the scars.
