Most detox diets last seven to 10 days, but there are several ways to achieve the cleansing effects of a healthy detox diet in four days. While detox diets are popular, most are not scientifically proved to be effective. Detox diets are designed to help remove toxins from the body and also may promote rapid weight loss. Proponents of detox diets also believe that they improve health, energy, immune system, memory and digestion. Medical professionals advise that individuals trying to lose weight lose no more than 1 to 2 pounds per week, as rapid weight loss often leads to rapid weight gain and a number of health risks.

Akalize the body by consuming two glasses of vegetable juice each day and eating plenty of superfoods. Consuming alkaline minerals will catch the toxic acids that the body releases to prevent them from being re-absorbed. Alkalizing foods include wheatgrass, goji berries, maca, bee pollen, spirulina, blue green algae and hemp seeds.

Mix 1 qt. purified water, 2 juiced lemons and 1/2 tsp. liquid stevia to make a lemon juice for the day. The lemon juice is designed to clear away mucus in the intestines that may hold toxins and parasites.

Combine 1 bunch of spinach, 2 apples and 1/2 lemon in a food processor to create a green vegetable juice. Drink this juice once a day for lunch.

Drink at least 64 oz. of water each day to stay adequately hydrated and to help flush toxins from the system.

Perform at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise each day. Cardio exercise elevates the heart rate and creates perspiration, which helps remove toxins from the body.

Tip

A common symptom of detoxing is fatigue; it is important to give yourself time to rest if you are feeling exhausted.

Warning

Possible side effects of detox diets include dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, nausea.
