1. Fasting to Expand Consciousness

The breatharian diet is based on the philosophy known as breatharianism or inedia. It is a branch of Hinduism based on the belief that people don't need food to survive, but can survive on air and prana, a highly energetic product of light condensation. This extreme form of fasting is said to expand a person's consciousness.

2. Freedom From Eating

Of course, breatharians do eat sometimes. For example, they might drink a little water, tea or coffee, or eat a little piece of chocolate or cheese. They might eat for pleasure, to socialize, or for any other reasons. However, they do not need to eat, so eating for them is a choice that they make. Followers of breatharianism point out that they have been freed from the constant preparing and digesting of food that takes up so much times in non-followers' lives.

3. Think of the Time You'll Save

A non-eater, or inedia, is described as someone who does not eat at all but is not fasting or starving. Non-eating is one step on the path to perfection in this belief system. Followers point out that non-eaters have more creative energy, sleep less and are able to function better than eaters. They also point out the time and money that can be saved if eating is avoided.

4. Breatharians Believe Food is Unnecessary

Breatharians claim that there is no reason to eat because almost everything we eat is excreted as urine, feces, mucus, sebum and blood. They also note that while there are no illnesses caused by fasting, a number of illnesses have been linked to food. Fasting, they say, is the most highly efficient healing tool. In fact, it is one of the reasons that we are programmed not to eat when we are sick with a fever. Eating food doesn't give us energy; instead, it forces us to expend energy decomposing, neutralizing and excreting the food.

5. Don't Make Your Children Eat

Inedia do not believe that food provides us with energy. They note that if food gave us energy, then the people who ate the most food would be the most energetic, and this is not the case. They claim that one of the worst things you can do to a child is to make him eat. When you make children eat you are wounding their bodies. A child will not starve or overeat if he is provided with wholesome food and allowed to use his own judgment.
