Without the safety straps of the bindings, your board would go skidding across the riding terrain during hairpin turns and high-speed maneuvers. The bindings help keep your feet stabilized while offering a full range of motion for your ankles. Despite their simplistic design, snowboard bindings are one of the most technologically advanced components of the snowboard. Bindings designed for advanced riders often have a more rigid construction for increased board response. According to REI, the only tool you'll need to change out your bindings is a No. 3 Phillips screwdriver.

Step 1

Place your snowboard on a flat worktable with the bindings facing up. Loosen the retention straps by lifting the corresponding release mechanisms. Raise the foam footbed of your snowboard binding to reveal the base plate.

Step 2

Insert your Phillips screwdriver into one of the mounting bolts of the base plate. Rotate your screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen and remove the bolt. Repeat the process with the three remaining mounting bolts.

Step 3

Lift your old binding away from the snowboard deck. Remove the circular base plate from the footbed of your replacement binding. Align your new binding over the mounting holes of the snowboard deck.

Step 4

Rotate your new binding to the desired angle to ensure a comfortable stance. Lower the base plate back into its original position. Insert four bolts through the base plate and into the corresponding mounting holes.

Step 5

Tighten the mounting bolts with your Phillips screwdriver. Lower the binding's footbed to conceal the circular base plate. Fasten the retention straps around your boot to examine the angle and position of the newly installed binding.
