1. What is The Zone Diet Plan?
If you do not know about the Zone diet plan, or are considering it as a part of your current diet but are not sure if it is right for you, then read on. The Zone diet plan was developed by Dr. Barry Sears, and is based on eating the right types of foods that put your body into "the Zone." According to the Zone diet plan, you'll keep several of your most important hormones--insulin, glucagon and eicosanoids--within the proper ranges for optimal health. The Zone diet plan is mainly focused on stabilizing these three hormone levels, eliminating significant shifts in insulin production, and allowing the body to function in a homeostasis hormonal state where it is able to operate optimally.
2. A Day in the Life of a Zone Diet Menu Plan
Just like you have a plan for your daily schedule, the Zone diet is to be treated the same way. All your meals and snacks should be planned out to accommodate the schedule of your day, so as not to interfere with appointments, meetings or workouts. Every meal and snack should include a low-fat protein (such as fish or chicken breast), a carbohydrate (such as vegetables and fruits and use of grains and pastas as condiments), and a healthy fat (such as raw almonds or olive oil). To stay in the Zone, you will need to eat every 4 to 5 hours after a meal or 2 to 2.5 hours after a snack, whether you are hungry or not. This insures that you stay in the Zone. The best time to eat is when you are not hungry, as this means your insulin levels are stable and are not going bonkers.
3. What Makes the Zone Diet Menu Plan Different
Nowadays there are quite a few diets out there that are similar to the Zone diet menu plan described here. The main thing that sets the Zone diet menu plan apart is the fact that you are educated on how your body's hormones play such a significant role when it comes to eating and weight loss. You learn to think along the lines of how foods affect you hormonally instead of how foods affect you in light of how many calories they contain.
4. Not Enough of a Good Thing
The Zone diet plan can be a difficult place to find and remain for your entire life. Small, frequent meals and snacks are encouraged throughout the day, as is a balance of nutrients within your meals, which should be considered in any meal plan for a lasting lifestyle change. However, total daily calories recommended are between 800 and 1200, which is very low and may leave you hungry and without all of the needed vitamins and minerals.
5. The Zone Diet Plan: Three Stages
Stage one is Entering the Zone: This stage lasts for 2 weeks and allows you to learn the basic principles of the diet.
Stage two is Eating in the Zone: This stage lasts for 4 weeks and fine tunes your unique biochemistry.
Stage three is Living in the Zone: This stage is for the rest of your life and enables you to maintain health and wellness long term.
