Vinegar is used in numerous home remedies, especially organic formulas. Bragg Raw Apple Cider Vinegar is organic and may provide health benefits and reduce blood pressure in those who drink it, at least that's what natural remedy enthusiasts claim. However, research in this area is limited and at this point, vinegar is by no means a substitute for standard high blood pressure treatment.
High Blood Pressure
According to the American Heart Association, high blood pressure can be described as the general weakening of the walls of the arteries due to the sustained flow of blood with too much force propelling it. Also called hypertension, high blood pressure stretches out the arteries and can cause heart disease, heart failure and stroke.
Bragg Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar is considered "raw" because it is organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized. It's high in acidity, features a cloudy material called the "mother" and contains numerous nutritious elements like pectic, acetic acid and potassium, which may be beneficial for your health, according to the Bragg website.
Research
In relation to blood pressure, the acetic acid in vinegar is what can help control blood pressure. According to a review published in 2006 in "Medscape General Medicine," by Carol S. Johnston Ph.D., a study conducted on rats showed a drop in high blood pressure when they were fed acetic acid. Why this was the case is unknown and whether these effects could be mimicked in humans is also unknown.
High Blood Pressure Treatment
Apple cider vinegar made by Bragg or anyone else should not be used as a high blood pressure treatment, as of 2011. Instead, you should see a doctor and get medical direction about your condition. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, some of these medications include diuretics, beta-blockers and ace-inhibitors. Making positive lifestyle changes such as eating a low-sodium diet and exercising regularly can also help to lower blood pressure.
