Creatine is an amino acid, produced naturally by the body, and found in muscles. Certain foods such as fish and meat also contain creatine. This amino acid is commonly used to improve athletic performance and increase muscle mass. Creatine is also used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, depression, bipolar disorder, Parkinson's disease and high cholesterol. According to the Drugs.com interaction checker, creatine and cetirizine, the chemical name for the brand Zyrtec, have no negative interactions, but consult with a doctor or pharmacist.

Step 1

Consult with your physician before taking creatine supplements. Although no interaction has been reported with Zyrtec and creatine, creatine can potentially interact with other medications and illnesses.

Step 2

Add creatine supplements to your diet. Creatine is typically taken in higher doses when first starting out, known as "loading." Your exact dosage of creatine will vary depending on the reason for the supplement. According to the National Institute of Health, creatine is usually loaded with 20 grams per day for five days followed by a maintenance dose of 2 or more grams.

Step 3

Continue to take Zyrtec as prescribed to relieve allergy symptoms.

Step 4

Avoid caffeine and the herb ephedra while taking creatine. There is one reported case of an athlete having a stroke while combining caffeine, ephedra and creatine. Although the cause of the stroke is not known, health experts caution athletes not to combine the drugs.

Step 5

Drink more water when taking creatine and Zyrtec. Creatine causes muscles to draw water from the rest of your body and could cause dehydration.
