Your hair is known as your personal crown of glory, but growing your hair to desired lengths can take some time. Your hair grows an average of half an inch per month, provided you are healthy and treat your hair right. Mistreating your hair can cause breakage and split ends, stunting its growth. There are a few simple rules you can follow to grow luxurious healthy hair quickly.
Step 1
Eat a healthy diet high in amino acids, vitamin B6 and beta carotine. Iron, zinc, and magnesium also promote rapid hair growth and add strength and volume to growing hair. Include plenty of protein in your diet as well. Hair is mostly made up of protein, so a diet low in protein will inhibit hair growth. Soy is a great protein source, and soy also maintains hair's sheen. Make sure that you drink at least eight glasses of water per day in addition to your vitamin-rich diet.
Step 2
Avoid stress and medications that may stunt hair growth. Relaxation techniques such as meditation can be very beneficial in treating stress. Medications that inhibit absorption of proteins and vitamins should be avoided and alternatives considered.
Step 3
Stop use of caffeine and nicotine. This can weaken the body's immune system and interfere with blood circulation, causing hair to slow in the growth cycle. Smoking and caffeine also block your body's absorption of vitamins and minerals needed for healthy hair and nails.
Step 4
Wash your hair in cold water with a mild shampoo and separate conditioner. Cold water stimulates hair follicles, increasing blood circulation in the scalp. Using shampoos with conditioners added weigh hair down and can keep it from growing at it's normal rate. Also avoid daily washing as this eliminates hair's natural oils and can promote dryness and breakage.
Step 5
Massage your scalp for at least 5 minutes daily. This will also increase blood circulation in the scalp by stimulating the hair follicles and promoting healthy hair growth. An ideal time to massage your scalp is while you are in the shower.
Step 6
Get plenty of rest. Sleeping at least 8 hours a night will help promote proper blood circulation and absorption of vitamins and minerals, Plenty of rest also helps relieve stress.
