The leading cause of hair loss in men is androgenic alopecia, which is more commonly referred to as simply male pattern baldness. There are two drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration--Propecia and minoxidil--and both work to prevent hair loss, as well as to regrow hair in balding areas. As it is considered easier to keep the hair you have, as opposed to grow new hair, acting quickly is essential.
Step 1
Visit your doctor. Your doctor will need to write a prescription for Propecia and can pinpoint any additional problems that may lead to hair loss.
Step 2
Wash hair with Nizoral shampoo. This should be done every three days, while using your regular shampoo the other two days. Allow the shampoo to soak into your scalp as long as possible before rinsing.
Step 3
Apply 1ml of minoxidil to crown area of scalp in the morning with the dropper. The scalp should be dry before applying minoxidil to prevent dilution.
Step 4
Take Propecia as prescribed by doctor. Propecia is 1mg of finasteride, so you will need to take one tablet daily.
Step 5
Apply 1 ml of minoxidil to crown area of scalp in the evening with the dropper. Again, your scalp should be dry and you should apply minoxidil at least one hour before going to sleep so it has time to dry.
