Bare Minerals Concealer Ingredients

Bare Minerals markets a concealer known as Bisque. Like other Bare Minerals items, Bisque is a natural, mineral product in a powder-like form. It can be used to cover blemishes, dark under-eye circles, fine lines and scars. It provides SPF-15 sun protection and can be used all over the face. Ingredients used to create Bisque are similar to those used in many mineral makeup formulations.

Mica

Mica is a mineral that constitutes the majority of Bisque. It is a mineral that is found in many parts of the world, with large deposits located in India. Mica is ground into a very fine, silky powder. By itself, mica is translucent, providing no coverage. It goes on very smoothly, adhering easily to the skin, and reflects light, which diminishes imperfections and wrinkles. Mica is the ingredient responsible for the smoothness of mineral makeup, creating a luxurious feel rather than being dry like a powder.

Bismuth Oxychloride

An elemental form of metal, this ingredient is used to add shine and shimmer to mineral makeup. It also refracts light, which makes it excellent for use in concealers such as Bisque, making fine lines and pores less noticeable. Some women are sensitive to bismuth oxychloride, however, and experience itchiness, especially when sweating. For this reason, the use of bismuth oxychloride is controversial.

Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is a white, powdery ingredient used to provide coverage and sun protection. It is good for people with sensitive skin because it does not absorb into the skin. Instead, it creates a barrier to prevent the sun's damaging rays from harming the skin cells.

Iron Oxides

Iron oxides come in many different shades that can be combined to create a large variety of colors. This ingredient provides the color of mineral makeup, and without it, all makeup would be white. In Bisque, it is added to create a skin tone color to cover imperfections. Iron oxides used in mineral makeup has undergone a purification process to eliminate toxins and make it safe for use on the skin. Ultramarines are also used in Bisque and other mineral makeup to add color.
