Preserving cooked seafood is a viable solution for when you cook too much or want to pre-prepare it for a later date. Storing your food in the refrigerator or freezer extends the amount of time you can safely use your food. Do not attempt to keep cooked seafood left out for more than two hours at room temperature or one hour at temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Also use clean utensils to handle your cooked seafood and keep it separate from other dishes.

Step 1

Remove the cooked seafood from its serving platter, cooking pan or pot. Use a clean serving utensil to place it in a shallow container. A shallow container permits the seafood to cool more quickly.

Step 2

Cover the container with a lid. Use plastic wrap if no lid is available. Seal tightly. Use a container and plastic wrap designed for the freezer if storing the food in the freezer.

Step 3

Write the date and the type of seafood on the container. Add an expiration date to the container, if desired. Add four days to current date if storing food in the refrigerator or three months if storing it in the freezer.

Step 4

Place the container on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator or freezer. Make sure that freezer temperature is at least 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below or the refrigerator temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

Things You'll Need
