Almond oil has many properties that are advantageous for maintaining good health, according to "Food as Medicine." As a folk treatment, almond oil is said to help digestive issues in the lower digestive tract, including constipation. The oil has a mild laxative effect, and taking it every day could help to loosen compacted stools. Almond oil also has been found to lower bad cholesterol levels while raising good cholesterol levels.
Step 1
Drink 2 tbsp. of almond oil daily to relieve constipation. If your constipation continues for a week or more, contact your physician to discuss alternative treatments. While there is anecdotal evidence supporting the efficacy of almond oil as a laxative, there is limited scientific evidence to back up such claims.
Step 2
Pour 2 to 4 tbsp. of almond oil over green salads, sauteed vegetables or chopped, raw vegetables. If you do not want to swallow almond oil straight, pouring the oil over vegetables might make it more palatable.
Step 3
Pour almond oil over Greek yogurt and top it with raw honey. Almond oil has a slightly sweet taste and pairs well with thick, creamy Greek yogurt. Yogurt is packed with gut-friendly probiotics that aid the digestion. Dharma Singh Khalsa in "Food as Medicine" believes that almond oil also may help to detoxify the digestive system. Adding almond oil and honey to yogurt creates a sweet dessert that supports the digestive system.
