The National Institutes of Health says hair loss most often develops slowly. It can be evident all over the scalp or in patchy spots. The NIH says it's normal to lose about 100 hairs from your head every day. Genetic baldness occurs when the body fails to grow new hair to replace what has been lost.According to the Mayo Clinic, approximately one third of women are affected by pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), the most widespread and usually permanent type of alopecia. There are a number of home remedies to increase the fullness or appearance of fullness of your hair.
Causes
According to the NIH, women may experience hair loss due to aging, genetics and male hormones, which tend to increase in postmenopausal women. The Mayo Clinic says female pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) involves a thinning of all of the hair on the scalp.
Protein-Rich Shampoos
Mother Nature.com says shampooing your hair every day helps improve body and fullness. Shampoos that contain hydrolyzed animal proteins are specifically recommended to promote thickness by giving your hair the appearance of greater diameter.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar before shampooing may also add volume, according to Home Remedies.com. Mix 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water. Massage the mixture into your hair and allow it to sit on your scalp for 10 to 15 minutes, then shampoo.
White Vinegar
Try a white vinegar scalp massage. Mother Nature.com suggests mixing 1 tbsp. white kitchen vinegar in a pint of water and rubbing it into your hair after shampooing, then rinsing thoroughly. The acidic effects of vinegar on your hair may give it the appearance of fullness.
Oils & Honey
Oiling your hair every other day may help thicken your hair and give it a healthy shine. Home Remedies.com suggests mixing 1/2 tsp. olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil and avocado oil with a couple of drops of honey. Warm these ingredients and rub the mixture into your scalp. The treatment should be left on for several hours or overnight.
Eggs, Bananas & Beer Treatment
A weekly hair mask consisting of an egg, a mashed banana, beer and honey may help nourish and thicken your hair, according to Home Remedies.com. To make the treatment, mix the egg and banana in a blender. Then add 1/2 cup flat beer and 1 tbsp. honey and combine the ingredients. Apply the creamy treatment to your hair and scalp and leave it on for a couple of hours, then shampoo. If you're pressed for time, Mother Nature.com suggests cracking an egg over your head before shampooing, massaging it in for a few minutes and then rinsing.
