Scars can occur for a variety of reasons, ranging from injuries and accidents to skin conditions such as acne and eczema. You don't have to live with scars for the rest of your life. Thankfully, there are many treatment methods available to get rid of scars, regardless of your skin tone. If you are African-American, there are various treatments you can employ to get rid of scars. With regular care, you can completely remove them.

Use a scar treatment cream on your skin. Apply a thin layer of the cream three times daily for at least eight weeks. Most over-the-counter scar treatment creams contain onion extract. It effectively reduces the appearance of scars on all skin tones, including African-American skin.

Slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice onto your scar. The acidity of the lemon juice will work to fade scars. Rinse the lemon juice off thoroughly before going outside. It can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

Get chemical peels. During a peel, chemicals are applied to your skin which burn away its top layers. Chemical peels are appropriate for all skin tones, and come in varying strengths. In order to remove scars, you will need a series of peels, spread out over several months.

Talk to your dermatologist about Retin-A products. Retin-A encourages skin cell regeneration. This means that new skin cells are more quickly created to replace your older, scarred cells. You must have a doctor's prescription in order to get Retin-A.

Try laser treatments. Laser light is used to target scar tissue, effectively breaking it up and removing scars from your skin. African-American skin requires a different type of laser than Caucasian skin. Most dermatologists have a few lasers in their inventories, to suit various skin types.

Massage your scar. This encourages circulation so essential blood and nutrients can better serve the area, helping to heal it more expediently. Massage also wears away at scar tissue so your scars will disappear more quickly. Rub the area for a few minutes at least three times per day.
