Apples are naturally rich in fiber, which helps to prevent constipation and other stomach ailments. According to the Mayo Clinic, apples are high in the type of fiber called soluble fiber, which helps lower blood cholesterol and balance glucose levels. By combining almonds with apples in a simple but delicious fruit salad, you can assist your digestion and give yourself an energy boost. Almonds also contain fiber and are packed with vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, riboflavin, niacin, thiamine, calcium, iron and vitamin B-6. Almonds are rich in beneficial fatty acids that help to lower LDL or "bad cholesterol" and increase HDL or "good cholesterol."

Step 1

Wash your apples, core them and peel them if desired. Slice the apples thinly.

Step 2

Place the sliced apples in a bowl and lightly toss them with the fresh lemon juice. The lemon juice inhibits the apples from oxidizing and turning brown.

Step 3

Add the almonds and raisins and stir the fruit salad.

Step 4

Spoon the fruit-and-nut mixture over yogurt or oatmeal; enjoy the fruit salad alone for breakfast -- or as a quick snack any time of the day.

Tips and Warnings

  • Eat approximately 6 oz. per day of apple-and-almond salad, or add approximately 3 oz. to oatmeal or yogurt. By reducing "bad cholesterol," eating almonds can help to lower your chances of heart disease and stroke, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 apples, ripe and preferably organically grown
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/8 cup raisins
