How to Get Hair to Grow Fast

Long, luxurious hair is beautiful and enviable, but getting your hair to grow quickly may require some things you would never have considered on your own. You may already know that washing your hair too often is counter-productive. You might be surprised to know that what you put in your mouth can affect the condition of your hair and how quickly it grows.

Step 1

Brush your hair every morning with a brush made from natural materials, such as boar bristle, advises Dr. George Michael, a long hair guru, in an interview with LongHairLovers website. Flip your head upside down and brush from the nape of the neck all the way to the ends. Brush your hair with your other hand between each brush stroke, which prevents static. Dr. Michael advises 50 strokes each morning to promote blood circulation and hair growth. Dr. George Michael wrote his doctorate on hair and is an expert on the medical causes of dry hair, split ends and hair damage.

Step 2

Eat 1 to 3 tbsp. of flax seed each day, recommends by Dr. Nicole Sundene. Dr. Sundene is a naturopathic physician and the editor in chief of the online health magazine Kitchen Table Medicine. Add flax seed to smoothies. Grind it up in a coffee grinder or buy pre-ground flax and sprinkle it on salads or put it in oatmeal or soup. Dr. Sundene recommends freshly ground flax, seed but you can also try drinking 1 tbsp. of flax seed or fish oil daily for strong hair.

Step 3

Take a daily multivitamin and mineral supplement. The B vitamins, biotin, and the minerals found in supplements such as Tri-Boron Plus by Twinlab aid in hair growth. Monitor your selenium intake, however, because Dr. Sundene says that 1,000mcg or more daily can result in hair loss.

Step 4

Do yoga daily. Inversion poses like headstands and handstands increase blood to the scalp, stimulating hair growth. Try the forward fold at home if yoga isn't your thing. Stand up and then bend forward at the waist. Hang your upper body and reach for your ankles. Take deep breaths and hold for three to five breaths.

Step 5

Give yourself a scalp massage with rosemary oil or with a rosemary shampoo. Scalp massages also increase circulation of blood to the scalp and rosemary aids in hair growth, says Dr. Sundene.

Step 6

Shampoo at most every other day so as not to strip your hair of essential oils, as advised by Dr. Sundene and Dr. Michael.
