Dandruff, that white flaky stuff that lands on your shirt and causes your head to itch. Everyone has experienced the effects of dandruff at some point. Getting rid of dandruff is no easy task and there are plenty of shampoos on the market that promise to do just that. Getting rid of dandruff without shampooing and washing the hair can prove just as effective and still help hair maintain its shine and beauty.
Step 1
Purchase a fine tooth nit comb at a beauty supply store or pharmacy. Section off your hair and working one section at a time, comb from as close to the scalp as you can get out to the ends of your hair. Wipe off the comb between swipes to avoid returning flakes to your hair.
Step 2
Apply coconut oil to the scalp daily, massaging it into the scalp in a circular motion. This will loosen the flakes and make them easier to comb out of your hair. This will also moisturize your scalp, eliminating dry skin and flakes.
Step 3
Eat more protein. Dandruff can be associated with a protein deficiency, so eating more poultry, beans, legumes, and soy can help your scalp heal from the inside out, eliminating dandruff.
Step 4
Massage lemon juice into the scalp at the roots of your hair. This will help loosen and dissolve unwanted dry skin and flakes, making removal a snap.
Tips and Warnings
- The best way to combat dandruff is still a good shampoo containing tar or dandruff medication, such as found in Head and Shoulders.
- If you cannot get rid of the dandruff, consult your physician as this may mean an underlying problem that will need special medicated shampoos or creams.
