Skin damage from UV rays is irreversible, and skin damage increases the risk of skin cancer later on in life, explains Better Health. Tanning without getting a sunburn can cause skin damage as well. Although adult sunburn rates have dropped in recent years, 25 percent of adolescents are still getting sunburned regularly. If your child seems to get sunburned easily or in very short periods of time, she could have another illness that's contributing to the problem, reports Mother Nature.com.

Cooling Remedies

Run a cool bath for your child to draw heat from the skin and add oatmeal to the bath to soothe sunburned skin. Don't use soap. You can apply cool compresses to the most painful areas or wrap your child in a wet shirt or towel. Make sure your child drinks plenty of water.

Soothing Remedies

Apply aloe vera gel to sunburned skin. Aloe is a disinfectant as well as a soothing agent, reports Healthy Child.com. This is important if your child is blistering. Read labels to get pure aloe and no alcohol in your aloe vera gel. Better yet, buy fresh aloe and cut the leaf to get the purest aloe for your sunburned child.

Hydrating Remedies

Apply moisturizer to wet skin to trap the hydrating water. Don't apply butter or petroleum-based products to the skin since they'll trap heat. Apply calamine lotion or talcum powder to your sunburned child. The powder suspended in calamine lotion helps skin to lose heat.

Supplements

Colloidal silver and L-cysteine can help sunburned skin to heal reports "The Daily Mail." Spray the sunburn with colloidal silver to promote tissue healing. It is believed that colloidal silver acts like an antibiotic. It has antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties. The amino acid L-cysteine promotes burn healing and should be taken only on an empty stomach.
