Supplements can help you remove belly fat, but they also remove fat overall and do not target one specific part of the body. No matter what you do to lose weight, it won't target any specific body part for faster or specific fat loss. Some supplements combine stimulants and diuretics for temporary and potentially harmful weight loss, while others simply stimulate your body's natural fat-burning mechanisms.

Step 1

Check with your doctor before beginning a supplement program. Some supplements interact dangerously with certain conditions or medications.

Step 2

Begin a program of diet and exercise conducive to weight loss. This can be simple portion control and jogging or a brand-name program with significant support. Whatever program you choose, sticking to your program is more important than selecting the highest-quality method.

Step 3

Avoid stimulants, such as weight-loss teas and diet pills. These supplements can boost your activity level, but stimulants are habit-forming and come with potentially dangerous side effects.

Step 4

Avoid diuretics, supplements that make you urinate frequently and in greater volume. They do make a short-term difference on your bathroom scale, but the water weight will return as soon as you establish a healthy hydration level.

Step 5

Take a course of thermogenic supplements: substances that support and stimulate your body's fat burning processes. Some supplements reputed to have thermogenic properties include lipotropin, garlic, fucoxanthin and policosanol.

Step 6

Measure your belly once a week, preferably at the same time on the same day. Record the progress in a journal. Tracking your progress can help you stay motivated and keep an eye on how effective your supplement program is working.

Tips and Warnings

  • The key word in dietary supplement is "supplement." You should not use them alone as your entire weight-loss program. They work best when supporting a holistic approach to shedding the pounds.
  • Dietary supplements are not overseen by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not bound by the standards of testing and advertising claims as drugs. Confirm any claims by a supplement manufacturer or distributor before committing to any weight-loss supplement regimen.
