A New Balance sport pedometer is an exercise-tracking unit that calculates the number of steps taken and the approximate distance covered based on your stride length. The downside to using a pedometer over a GPS unit is that it requires setup before use, which is a simple task. Once you have the stride length calculated and input into the pedometer, the unit the information to calculate how far you went on the walk or jog.
Step 1
Determine your stride length by marking a line on the ground with chalk and walking 10 steps at your normal stride when walking for fitness.
Step 2
Measure the distance from the start line to the front tip of the foot taking the last step. Divide this number by 10 to calculate the average stride length.
Step 3
Press the "Mode" button on the pedometer until the display flashes. Continue to press the "Mode" button until you reach the average stride setting.
Step 4
Input your calculated stride by pressing the "Start" or "Reset" button to move the numbers up or down.
Step 5
Press and hold the "Mode" button to save the average stride length and exit the edit mode on the pedometer.
Tips and Warnings
- Set the sensitivity to "Hi" or "Lo" by pressing the "Mode" button until the display flashing, and then pressing the "Start" button to select the desired option. Choose a high sensitivity if the pedometer does not seem to pick up all the steps taken. Choose a low sensitivity of the pedometer reads every movement as a step. Measure your stride length periodically to verify there are no changes as your fitness increases. Adjust the pedometer stride length, as needed.
