A loose mesh pocket on your lacrosse head can mean the difference between catching the lacrosse ball and missing the play. Loose pockets can be tightened for a temporary fix, but as the strings and mesh pocket becomes frayed and worn, the basket needs replacing. Do not attempt to simply repair the mesh, as this could change the way your lacrosse stick performs. Trying to temporarily repair a hole in the mesh can lead to the basket breaking during play, and possibly take you out of the game.

Step 1

Tighten the top string holding the mesh pocket to the lacrosse head if it should become loose. Loosen the knot on one side of the top string, pull the string until taunt. Retie the top string.

Step 2

Loosen the sidewall string knots located at the bottom of your lacrosse head. Start on the opposite end of the head away from the knots and pull the sidewall strings tight at each hole along the head. Pull the strings at the original knot locations to remove the slack in the sidewall to pull the mesh of the pocket tight. Retie the knots in the sidewall strings.

Step 3

Remove the top string, side strings, bottom string and shooting strings from your lacrosse head when they become worn and frayed.

Step 4

Lay the lacrosse head on a flat surface. Tie an overhand knot in one end of the new top string. Thread the string through the outside of the lacrosse head at the top hole. Pull the string until the knot sits against the outside of the lacrosse head.

Step 5

Fold the top row of the new mesh pocket over onto itself to create a double thickness of mesh. Loop the top string through the folded mesh, and then through the next hole in the top of the lacrosse head. Weave in and out of every other hole in the mesh as you loop the string through the holes in the top of the lacrosse head.

Step 6

Thread the top string through the hole on the opposite side of the lacrosse head. Pull the top string tight and tie an overhand knot in the string to hold the top of the pocket.

Step 7

Tie an overhand knot in one of the new sidewall strings. Thread the string thought the bottom hole in the lacrosse head, from the outside to the inside.

Step 8

Weave the string through every other hole in the mesh as you work your way toward the top of the mesh pocket. Once you reach the top of the mesh, insert the sidewall string through the lacrosse head, from the inside to the outside.

Step 9

Loop the sidewall string through every other hole in the mesh as you weave the string in and out of the holes on the side of the lacrosse head. Work your way back down to the bottom of the lacrosse head.

Step 10

Pull the sidewall string tight at the bottom of the head. Tie an overhand knot in the string to hold it secure. Repeat on the other side of the lacrosse head.

Step 11

Tie an overhand knot in the new bottom string. Insert the string through the throat of the lacrosse head. Weave the string through as many holes as you choose in the mesh pocket, and then out the other hole in the throat of the lacrosse head. Pull the string tight and secure it with an overhand knot.

Step 12

Tie an overhand knot in your replacement shooting string. Thread the string from the outside though the bottom shooting string hole located at the top of the lacrosse head.

Step 13

Weave the shooting string in and out through each diamond opening in the mesh as you travel across the mesh basket. Thread the string though the bottom hole, and then back through the top shooting string hole. Weave in and out of the mesh basket, and then out the top hole on the opposite side of the lacrosse head. Tie an overhand knot in the shooting string to secure it in place.
