The SureSlim Diet, originally conceived in the UK, features a customized meal plan that focuses on a variety of foods. Obesity rates in the UK average around 25 percent, while obesity and overweight rates in America fall in the 66 percent range, according the UK's Department of Health and a January 2010 report in the "Journal of the American Medical Association." No matter which side of ocean you're on, consult a doctor before following the SureSlim plan.

Philosophy

The philosophy behind the SureSlim Diet lies in the belief that in order to lose weight successfully, your glucose metabolism and hormones should be correctly balanced, according to the SureSlim website. The program offers individual counseling and flexible food choices utilizing the glycemic index. The program does not recommend using weight loss supplements, but instead focuses on eating natural, whole foods that you can find at your grocery store. While the SureSlim website indicates that each participant receives a customized food plan, there are categories of foods that are recommended for everyone.

Low Glycemic Index Grains

The Glycemic Index Foundation indicates that a low glycemic index food has a rating of 55 or less on the Glycemic Index scale. The SureSlim diet recommends eating whole grains with a low GI value such as barley, steel-cut oats, rye, pasta with whole wheat flour, brown or wild rice and breads made with spelt. A breakfast meal of whole grain cereal or a slice of dense rye bread and yogurt gives you energy for the day. Eat small servings of rice with a 4 oz. piece of grilled fish or chicken for lunch, and include a whole grain with your dinner meal.

Fruits and Vegetables

Apples, oranges, apricots, pears and bananas, mangoes, strawberries and many other fruits have an appropriate GI index appropriate for following the SureSlim Diet plan. Eat several servings of fruits throughout the day. Use chopped or pureed fruit in cream or wheat or oatmeal, serve a fruit salad at dinner or use whole fruits as snacks. Asparagus, collard greens and spinach, cucumbers, broccoli, okra, string beans and onions have a low GI, and contain few calories per serving. The SureSlim plan limits the number of starchy vegetables such as corn or potatoes you may eat.

Dairy, Protein and Healthy Fats

Choose dairy, meat and protein sources and foods with healthy fats that also have a low glycemic index. Drinking low-fat milk or soy milk gives you few calories, but substantial amounts of protein and some calcium. Yogurt, sweetened with a natural low-calorie sweetener or fruit provides you a filling way to satisfy your sweet tooth. Seafood, chicken, lean beef, soybeans, white kidney beans and red lentils make healthy protein choices. The SureSlim Diet recommends eating healthy fats from avocados, olive oil, fatty fish and canola oil.
