How to Make My Hair Grow Fast

Use several techniques to encourage your hair to grow quickly. Getting regular cuts, putting yourself in an inverted position to aid blood flow to the head, and eating enough of nutrients, like protein and B vitamins, will speed up hair growth. Proper brushing techniques will also stimulate the hair follicles and promote growth. Keeping your scalp healthy and stimulated can help your hair grow faster, while proper nutrition will make sure the new hair comes in healthy.

Step 1

Brush your hair daily. Bend forward at the waist and hang your head down toward the ground, flipping your hair over. Place your brush at the roots of hair at the nape of your neck and run the brush down your hair 50 times, as advised by long-hair guru Dr. George Michael. Dr. Michael is the founder of George Michael salons and hair products.

Step 2

Eat 15 to 30 percent of your daily calories from protein, as recommended by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. For example, if you are eating 2,000 calories a day, eat between 300 and 600 calories from protein. A study led Elaine Fuchs, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator at the University of Chicago, found that protein spurs hair growth. Drink a protein shake daily if you need to up your protein intake. See the Resources section for a smoothie recipe. Soy, milk, eggs, lean meats, fish, and low-fat yogurt all contain a high amount of protein.

Step 3

Attend regular yoga classes, as suggested by Dr. Nicole Sundene in an article called "How to Grow Your Hair Super Fast." Dr. Sundene is the editor-in-chief of the online health magazine Kitchen Table Medicine. She is also a licensed naturopathic physician. Yoga includes many inverted poses, like down dog, that put your head in an upside-down position. Being upside down improves blood flow to the scalp with the help of gravity. If yoga will not fit into your schedule, try lying face down off the side of your bed periodically throughout the day to increase blood flow and nourish your hair follicles.

Step 4

Take a multivitamin every day that meets 100 percent of your daily recommended values for B vitamins. Dr. Sundene says that B vitamins are crucial for hair growth.

Step 5

Schedule a trim every two months, suggests Dr. Sundene. Ask your hairdresser to taper the ends of your hair instead of cutting it straight across. Dr. Michael says this cut is best for hair growth.

Tips and Warnings

  • Dr. Michael recommends using a boar bristle brush with a wooden base. He says brushes made from natural materials will less likely damage your hair.
