Goiter is a condition that is caused by lack of iodine in the diet, according to the Mayo Clinic. During this condition the thyroid gland, which is at the base of the neck, swells uncomfortably and sometimes noticeably. It may be difficult to swallow or breathe with goiter. One treatment for goiter is to supplement the diet with foods that are high in iodine such as seafood, kelp, dairy products, and fruit and vegetables grown in soil with a high iodine count.
Step 1
Wash 2 cups of strawberries and 5 carrots under water to remove any debris or pesticides. Choose organic produce where available to reduce the risk of pesticide contamination.
Step 2
Chop the stems off of the strawberries.
Step 3
Place a glass under the spout of a juicer.
Step 4
Juice the carrots and strawberries together. Drink this juice as-is or pour the juice into a blender and add one handful kelp and ¼ cup milk. Blend the ingredients for an iodine-rich juice or add a banana to the mix for a creamier smoothie blend.
Tips and Warnings
- According to "Prescription for Dietary Wellness," goiter sufferers should avoid drinking cabbage juice. Consume shellfish and fish to increase the daily intake of iodine, as well as using iodized salt.
- Consult a doctor for an official diagnosis if you suspect you have goiter. Do not try alternative treatments without a doctor's consent.
