Nutrition in a Taco Bell Chicken Supreme Chalupa

Taco Bell's Chicken Supreme Chalupa is made of a slightly crisped fry bread shell filled with boneless cut chicken, tomato, lettuce and reduced-fat sour cream and a cheddar, jack and mozzarella cheese blend. The item weighs about 5.5 oz. and provides 350 calories, 162 of which come from fat. The Chicken Supreme Chalupa also is available in a health-conscious version, known as fresco style, that has fewer calories and fat.

Regular Version

The Chicken Supreme Chalupa at Taco Bell, in addition to 350 calories, contains 18 grams of fat, 4 of which are saturated, 35 mg of cholesterol and 520 mg of sodium. The chalupa also provides 29 g of carbohydrates, 3 g of dietary fiber, 4 g of sugar and 17 g of protein. The chalupa's fat content represents about 46 percent of its overall calories.

Fresco Style Version

The fresco style version of the Chicken Supreme Chalupa is made from the same ingredients as the regular version but contains fiesta salsa instead of the three-cheese blend. This substitution accounts for the 25 percent overall reduction of the item's fat content, bumping it from 18 g to 14 g. By leaving the cheese out of the product, the fiesta style version of this chalupa sees an across-the-board reduction in several of the item's nutritional categories. Saturated fat content decreases to 1.5 g, while cholesterol falls to 25 g and sodium goes down to 500 mg. The fresco-style chalupa provides one less gram of carbohydrates and two less grams of protein but offers the same amount of fiber and sugars.

Nutrients

Carbohydrates, the largest nutrient contained in the regular and fresco style versions of the Chicken Supreme Chalupa, come in a several forms, including fiber and sugar, and provide the body with easily accessed energy needed for physical performance. Protein, the second highest nutrient in the chalupas, plays an important role in developing and maintaining muscle mass. Fat comes primarily in four forms: saturated, trans, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The unsaturated fats, also known as good fats, offer a variety of health benefits, including a decreased risk of heart disease and lower glucose levels. Saturated and trans fats, on the other hand, increase the chances of forming heart disease and other diseases, such as diabetes.

Alternate Choices

Taco Bell also serves regular and fresco style chalupas that come with beef and steak instead of chicken. The calorie, fat and nutrient content between these items is slightly different, ranging from 290 to 370 calories with between 15 to 21 g of fat. Carbohydrate content for these chalupas ranges from 28 to 31 g, while protein content ranges from 11 to 14 g.
