A humerus fracture is a breakage in the humerus bone at the top of the arm near the shoulder. The humerus connects to the shoulder bone, and the entire upper arm area is an extremely common place for injuries. After a trip to the doctor to receive your diagnosis, you'll most likely have to spend some time with your arm in a sling, limiting your range of motion. Once you have your doctor's permission to remove the sling, you can perform range-of-motion exercises. Practice all of the exercises for 30 seconds, working your way up to five minutes.

Step 1

Lie on your bed or a massage table with your weak arm hanging off the side. Let your arm and shoulder relax as your arm hangs down. Swing your arm forward and backward gently and slowly, stopping if you feel any pain.

Step 2

Stand holding the side of a chair. Bend slightly from the waist and let your weak arm dangle to your side. Move your arm in small circles for 30 seconds.

Step 3

Bend at the waist and let both of your arms hang toward the floor. Move your arms from side to side like a pendulum.

Step 4

Stand next to a wall, and slowly walk the fingers of your weak arm up toward the ceiling, as high as you can move them without feeling strain or any pain.

Step 5

Clasp your hands behind your back and move your arms up toward your head as you bend over. Release your hands back to you lower back and stand up straight.

Step 6

Place both of your hands behind your head with your elbows out to the sides. Move your elbows toward one another behind your head on an inhale and bring them back to the center on an exhale.
