Pimple and ingrown hairs are commonly found together on skin surfaces that you shave, such as a man's jaw or a women's bikini line. These skin blemishes do not always scar, however if they are frequent, untreated or aggravated they can leave an uneven skin tone in both color and texture. Combine preventive skin measures with scar treatment to help stop those pimple and ingrown hair scars.
Step 1
Stop shaving the affected area if this is causing the skin pimples and follicle problems. You cannot initiate scar treatment in an area that still has active infection.
Step 2
Use an electric razor or depilatory cream once the active infection, such as the pimples and razor bumps, have diminished.
Step 3
Apply cortisone cream, obtained by doctor's prescription, to the scars and areas of redness. This may help decrease the red or inflammation.
Step 4
Consider a chemical peel or dermabrasion and discuss these options with a dermatologist. They are minimally invasive methods of removing the first layer of skin cells, which can markedly decrease the appearance of shallow skin scars.
Step 5
Talk to the dermatologist about laser treatments or injectable fillers if other methods are not successful. These treatments may be costly, but they can help resurface the skin, erase signs of damage and plump dimpling from ingrown hairs and pimples.
Tips and Warnings
- Do not pick at pimples or ingrown hairs. This can make the potential scarring even worse.
